EMI has put in place a mechanism to speed up the collection of sound practices and city profiles in several megacities in the EMI network. The Megacity Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Base (www.pdc.org/emi) recently launched in alliance with the Pacific Disaster Center, PDC, will progressively integrate this new information.
Six cities have hired or have started a selection process to engage local interns in the 3cd Program. The cities of Mexico, Bogotá and Quito in the Americas; Istanbul in the Euro-Mediterranean Region; and Dhaka and Mumbai in Asia are part of this initial enterprise that aims at shaping the new generation of risk reduction advocates and leaders. In addition, the PDC contributes with a full time intern to carry out research on DRM organization in megacities. The Department of Emergengy Management of the City of Los Angeles has also agreed in contributing to this effort.
