EMI is pleased to announce its new partnership with the UNPD Jordan Country Office, UNDP/BCPR, the Kingdom of Jordan, and the City of Amman, Jordan, towards the development of an integrated disaster risk management program for the city. EMI will provide technical support and scientific assistance to Jordanian authorities in the formulation and implementation of a Disaster Risk Management Master Plan (DRMMP), in close cooperation with the Department of Civil Defense and other national and local agencies. The DRMMP will provide the framework for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction into the urban development and planning processes of the city.
"This project will serve as a model to other cities in terms of putting in place competent disaster management programs," said Mr. Hossein Kalali of UNDP/BCPR. EMI has undertaken similar projects under its Cross-Cutting Capacity Development (3cd) Program in other major cities such as Istanbul (Turkey), Metro Manila (Philippines) and Kathmandu (Nepal). The two-year partnership project with the City of Amman will commence on 01 April 2007
