EMI completes delivery of WBI Distance Learning Program on Natural Disaster Risk Management

Success rate in each course

EMI has successfully completed the delivery of six courses on Natural Disaster Risk Management under the Global Distance Learning Program of the World Bank Institute. The Philippine run, covering the period, July 15, 2006 - July 15, 2007, was conducted in collaboration with the National Disaster Coordinating Council (NDCC) through the Office of Civil Defense, which customized five of the six online courses. The said courses were as follows:

1. Comprehensive Disaster Risk Management Framework (CDRMF) - Sep. 25 - Oct. 27, 2006
2. Community-based Disaster Risk Management (CBDRM) - Jan. 8 - Feb. 11, 2007
3. Safe Cities - Feb. 19 - Mar. 26, 2007
4. Damage and Reconstruction Needs Assessment (DRNA) - Apr. 2 - May 6, 2007
5. Financial Strategies for Managing the Economic Impacts of Natural Disasters (FinStrat)- May 7 - Jun. 10, 2007
6. Earthquake Risk Reduction (ERR) - Jun. 11 - Jul. 15, 2007

A total of 77 students enrolled in the CDRMF Course, which is a pre-requisite for the other specialized courses. Of the 77 registrants, 50 (65%) successfully completed all the requirements of the basic course and therefore qualified for the specialized courses. For CBDRM, the passing rate was 67%; Safe Cities, 85%; DRNA, 79%; Financial Strategies, 75%; and ERR, 63%.
