In June 2007, Mr. Mesut Pektas, General Secretary of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (IMM) and Dr. Fouad Bendimerad, Chairman of EMI, officially signed a Letter of Intent to cooperate in the context of EMI's Cluster Cities Project and 3cd Program.  The agreement further consolidated the long-standing relationship between IMM and EMI and opened the door for the undertaking of concrete projects in the context of the implementation of the Istanbul Earthquake Master Plan.

Several projects have been proposed as part of the cooperation agenda. Dr. Bendimerad reiterated EMI's commitment to support IMM in its disaster risk reduction efofrts.  "EMI has provided excellent guidance to IMM and we welcome the possibility for more cooperation," said Mr. Pektas.
