EMI promotes DRR among Asia-Pacific cities
EMI presented its programs, tools and activities at the Disaster Cluster Cities Meeting of CITYNET on 17 November 2007 in Makati City, Philippines. CITYNET is an Asia-Pacific network of local authorities involved in the management of human settlements in urban areas.
EMI was represented by Dr. Rene Solidum, EMI Trustee and PHIVOLCS Director. He discussed the need for urban DRR in the region and introduced EMI's approach under the banner of the 3cd Program and CCP.
At the meeting, cities shared their respective exposure to natural hazards and the programs they have undertaken to mitigate disaster risk. Potential local level projects were also explored and submitted to CITYNET for consideration.
The meeting was attended by about 20 city representatives from the Asia-Pacific region.
