EMI finished off its delivery of Earthquake Risk Reduction course last 23 September 2009 with a 100 percent passing rate. Twenty two participants representing the local governments, national government agencies and non-governmental organizations passed the four-week online course that aims to provide a wide understanding of earthquakes and the ways to reduce risks from earthquake hazards.
Ms. Sharon Taylor, a development education specialist from the Philippine Rural Reconstruction Movement got the highest score. Three participants received the Best End-of-Course Project recognition. They are Mr. Munaz Ahmed Noor from Bangladesh University, Ms. Maritess Tandingan from the National Society for Earthquake Technology in Nepal, and Ms. Remedios Gorgonio, a freelance development consultant based in Pakistan.
Earthquake Risk Reduction course is part of the Comprehensive Natural Disaster Risk Management Learning Program (NDRMP) developed by the World Bank Institute.
EMI is scheduled to deliver another specialization course from the WBI’s NDRMP on Damage and Reconstruction Needs Assessment beginning on 5 October 2009.
