EMI’s General Secretary Atty. Violeta Seva attended the CITYNET Congress 2009 held last 7-11 September 2009 in Yokohama, Japan. Over 1,000 participants including key members from local governments, UN agencies, and leading authorities in urban development tackled urgent concerns that cities from all over the world are faced with. These urban issues included climate change, disaster risk reduction, urban safety, basic service delivery, gender, public-private partnerships, among others.
Atty. Seva was one of the panelists in the session titled Public Forum on Combating Global Warming: the Way Forward.As Senior Advisor to the City Government of Makati, she shared Makati City’s experience in building partnership with civil society organizations and corporations. She also chaired the session on Disaster Cluster Dialogue where various initiatives of member cities in disaster risk reduction and climate change adaptation were shared among the participants.
In a roundtable discussion on city networks, Atty. Seva provided inputs on how city networks can improve its services to member cities. Overall, the participants in the round table discussion agreed to establish a knowledge sharing platform among member cities, maximize potential for city network collaboration, and develop a conceptual framework to strengthen city network relationship with external agencies.
