EMI, Katmandu and GTZ explore partnership opportunities
On September 16, 2009, EMI and representatives of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) met with GTZ-Manila represented by Mr. Walter Saltzer, GTZ Program Director and Principal Adviser in the Philippines. EMI presented its risk reduction projects in Metro Manila, Kathmandu and other major cities in the world, while GTZ discussed its ongoing initiatives and assistance in the Philippines, particularly in the area of disaster risk management. The meeting proved to be interesting and informative as it provided a clear picture of the priority areas for action of both organizations.
The activity was also organized as part of the learning design for KMC officials who were in Manila from Sept. 16-20 under a city-to-city sharing program with Makati City. The KMC visit was made possible with support from the German Federal Foreign Office (FFO) through the German Disaster Reduction Committee (DKKV) in relation to EMI's risk-sensitive land use planning project in Kathmandu.
