EMI heads to Amman for last field investigation

EMI approaches the final leg of its Cross-Cutting Capacity Development (3cd) Program in Amman, Jordan as its team of experts heads off to the city on 10-14 January 2009 for the third and final field investigation.Technical staff and researchers from Greater Amman Municipality, General Directorate of Civil Defense, Yarmouk University and EMI will come together in a multi-stakeholder and participatory platform to:
  1. Engage key government agencies in a focused consultation process to discuss and validate the draft DRMMP Framework of Amman;
  2. Collect feedback and comments on the Draft Amman DRMMP from various sectors and stakeholders of GAM;
  3. Consolidate recommendations based on inputs from stakeholders and integrate these in the final draft of the Amman DRMMP Framework; and
  4. Conduct consultations on the scope for following work in order to complete the DRMMP process.
Dr. Fouad Bendimerad, EMI Chairman, leads the team with Dr. Marqueza Reyes (Project Manager and Urban Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist), Atty. Violeta Seva (Legal and Institutional Expert), Dr. Bijan Kazai (Geotechnical and Spatial Analysis Expert/Seismic Risk Analyst), and Jeannette Fernandez (DRMMP Advisor).

The 3cd Program in Amman, Jordan aims to develop a Disaster Risk Management Master Plan (DRMMP) that will guide local authorities in understanding and reducing Amman’s risks to earthquake hazards.
