Twenty-three participants from various international development organizations, non government organizations, local government units and private institutions all over the globe passed the four-week online course on Community-based Disaster Risk Management which run from May 10-June 9, 2010. The course introduced concepts, tools, and mechanisms that help design and implement community-based disaster risk management programs.

The online course offers professionals an opportunity to study at their own pace, accomplish assigned tasks and engage in discussion forums with participants from all over the globe. Mr. Lugard Ogaro of Mercy Corps, Somalia has this to say about the course: “…this is a wonderful course. I was able to link end of the pipe responses that I normally participate in with actual design of any project or program. The timing is fine. The participants have a wealth of experience in DRR (disaster risk reduction) and DRM (disaster risk management). The CST helped in answering questions and guiding us through the course…”

Mayor Christine Garin, a local chief executive from the Philippines obtained the highest mark and her work was chosen as one of the best course projects along with Ms. Kitka Goyol of Oxfam UK  and Mr. Rodger Lutalo of UNDP Uganda.

The course was implemented by the following team: Ms. Julie Catherine Paran as Course Director, Ms. Loreine Dela Cruz as Subject Matter expert, Ms. Matilde Go as Course Facilitator and Mr. Jesus Dominic Dizon as Course Administrator.
