World's Mayors declare course of action for Climate Adaptation

Mayors from 22 cities in 19 countries have signed the Bonn Declaration of Mayors held during ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability's First World Congress on Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change in Bonn, Germany last May 29-31, 2010. Convened by the World Mayors Council on Climate Change (WMCCC) as the high-level segment of the Congress. The Mayors Adaptation Forum expressed its concern over the failure of the COP15 to deliver a post-2012 climate agreement and has recognized the opportunity to highlight the role of cities and local governments worldwide will continue leading global climate action.

The Declaration lists 10 Action Points that lead towards climate adaptation at the local government level and recognizes the need of local governments access to financial mechanisms to implement strategies and initiatives to manage a climate change.

ICLEI, WMCCC, UNISDR and partners of the Resilient Cities 2010 congress will extend their collaboration for further implementation and monitoring of the Campaign to raise urban adaptation on the agenda of global climate governance.
