The Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment (HVRA) component undertakes a three-part investigative and analytical process to provide a sound basis for undertaking interventions that will reduce Greater Mumbai’s disaster risk. This includes the identification of the types of hazards that may affect the city and their expected impacts, an analysis of the different factors contributing to the vulnerability of city’s population, infrastructure and other features of the urban environment, and the assessment of Greater Mumbai’s overall risk, based on the hazard and vulnerability information. The following tasks have so far been accomplished under the HVRA component:
- Formation of HVRA Focus Group
- Earthquake and flood risk assessments for Greater Mumbai
- Consultations with HVRA Focus Group and local experts on the results of the earthquake and flood risk assessments
- Discussions with key stakeholders and collection of data on post-disaster evacuation and shelter, as well as post-disaster healthcare functionality
- Development of overall HVRA Framework
- Development of risk indicators
