As part of the EMI-DKKV/FFO project on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in megacities, Makati City and Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) will take part in a City-to-City (C2C) sharing activity with the objective of strengthening technical cooperation between the two cities to enhance their knowledge and experience in land use planning and disaster management . The C2C sharing will be facilitated by EMI, with the support of CityNet, National Society for Earthquake Technology-Nepal (NSET) and Kathmandu Valley Town Development Committee (KVTDC).
Part of the learning exchange would be the demonstration of the Land Pooling and Land Readjustment tools used in KMC, a method of consolidating parcels of land from private individual landowners and re-plotting these parcels to establish a planned urban community complete with roads, drainage system, parks and open spaces, and community facilities. Makati City, on the other hand will share its expertise and knowledge in the formulation of a city-wide comprehensive land use plan, as well as in emergency management where Makati has had extensive experience in. KMC is currently in the process of updating their existing land use map and setting up an organic disaster management office.
KMC will be welcoming their counterparts from Makati City and EMI on 16-21 April, 2008.
Check out the EMI Google calendar for the trip's agenda.
