The EMI team headed by Dr. Fouad Bendimerad, EMI Chairman, will be in Amman, Jordan from 4-8 May 2008 to conduct the First Field Investigation of Cross-Cutting Capacity Development (3cd) Program of Amman, Jordan. The field investigation is part of the agreement entered into by the UNPD Jordan Country Office, UNDP/BCPR, the Kingdom of Jordan, the City of Amman, Jordan, and the Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative to undertake the development of a disaster risk management master plan (DRMMP). Other team members include, Atty. Violeta Seva (EMI Gen. Secretary & Treasurer), Dr. Marqueza Reyes (Urban Disaster Risk Reduction Specialist), and Dr. Bijan Khazai (EMI Consultant).
The field investigation aims to:
1. Review and discuss information provided in City Profile and sound practices; increase understanding of current DRM practice in the country and the city.
2. Review and discuss results from risk assessment and undertake exercises for risk analysis with Yarmouk University.
3. Identify elements for the development of the disaster risk management master plan (DRMMP), focusing on institutional and legal arrangements for DRM (disaster risk management), and on the understanding of current practice, gaps and priorities.
4. Collect necessary documentation, review and agree on updated work plan from here to completion of project.
