Resilient Cities 2011, the 2nd World Congress for Cities and Adaptation to Climate Change will be held in Bonn, Germany on 3-5 June 2011. The Congress, which is being organized by ICLEI-Local Governments for Sustainability provides an opportunity for local governments, scientists and practitioners to break down barriers and have the space to candidly discuss the tough issues associated with adaptation to climate change. For 2011, the organizers are expecting more participants from different cities and local governments to attend the Congress.

Resilient Cities 2010 provided a venue for discussion on critical topics such as: urban risk assessment; urban adaptation planning and practice; social-economic and institutional dimensions; strategy, policy integration and mainstreaming; and costs and financing of urban climate change adaptation.  Four cities – Dhaka, Bangladesh; Durban; South Africa; Miami, United States; and Quito, Ecuador - presented case studies on local scenarios of climate change impacts and adaptation planning efforts and they benefitted from questions and comments given by congress participants. The Bonn Declaration of Mayors was also presented, endorsing the UNISDR’s “Making Cities Resilient” campaign and agreeing to 10 action points to promote urban adaptation.

Resilient Cities 2011 promises even more opportunities for information exchange, peer networking, and discussions on the development of risk reduction and adaptation solutions. Cities, local governments, organizations and companies may take part in Resilient Cities 2011 by participating in the congress, hosting complementary events, being a sponsor of the event, and showcasing solutions through an exhibit.
