The first Field Investigation (FI) for the Pasig City Earthquakes and Floods Resiliency Project was successfully conducted last August 1-5, 2011. A highlight of the FI was the participation of EMI's Hazard, Vulnerability and Risk Assessment(HVRA) Expert, Dr. Bijan Kazai from the University of Karlsruhe in Germany, who flew in to conduct a training on hazard risk assessment and assessment of the Geographical Information System (GIS) capacity of Pasig City.

A meeting with Dr. Renato Solidum of PHIVOLCS to discuss possible collaboration with other government and international agencies for the Pasig Project was conducted on the morning of Aug. 1. During the afternoon a briefing of Pasig City stakeholders was also conducted to update them on the scope and progress of the project.

On Wednesday, August 3, Dr. Khazai conducted an orientation seminar on GIS applications to the city's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management System, which was followed by a short training course on Hazard, Vulnerability, and Risk Assessment. Mr. Leigh Lingad, EMI GIS Specialist, also presented the results of the survey and inventory of the Pasig City GIS system conducted during the last week of July. Various staff from different departments of the City Government of Pasig participated in the training-orientation.

The second Field Investigation is slated this September and will focus on Emergency Management Systems.
