As part of the capacity building activities within the Pasig City Resilience to Earthquakes and Floods Project, EMI launched a series of specialized trainings on emergency management (EM) for the Pasig City Government (PCG). Mr. James Buika, EMI's EM Expert, conducted the first module on September 13 and 15, 2011. The first day focused on introducing EM to a diverse set of participants, ranging from those with extensive knowledge and experience on EM and those with limited exposure to the field. Participants consisted of members of Pasig City's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Council, Project Implementation Team (PIT) members emanating from PCG departments, offices and barangays, focal persons from other relevant PCG departments, embedded national government agencies, and private organizations. The second training day was highlighted by the Tabletop Exercise on an earthquake scenario that enabled the participants to identify the Emergency Support Functions (ESFs) for Pasig City, taking into account their respective institution's roles. The ESF Table was accomplished seamlessly with Mr. Ritche Angeles, the head of Pasig City's DRRM Office, facilitating the process of covering all the 15 functionsand providing guidance to the participants in determining which among these functions their institution are involved with. The ESF process provided the needed clarification of roles among PCG departments and allied institutions, their respective assignments in the ESF, and the membership for each function.
In between the two training days, Mr. Buika visited the Pasig City Emergency Operations Center (EOC) on September 14, 2011. The EM Team was given a guided tour of theby Mr. Angeles.
