Pursuant to the development of the Quezon City's Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Plan (DRRMP) for the "Building a Disaster Resilient Quezon City Project", Earthquakes and Megacities Initiative (EMI), has helped identify for Quezon City several recommended strategies for improving institutional and coordination mechanisms on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) to prioritize for implementation. These recommended strategies are important to establish a DRRM system based on compliance of national laws and international standards of practice.
On July 11, 2013, a Strengths-Weaknesses-Opportunities-Challenges (SWOC) workshop was conducted at the Bulwagang Amoranto, QC City Hall with members of the Project Technical Working Group (TWG) to assess the capability of the city in implementing these recommended strategies. In the process, the TWG Group also learned the salient features of the legal and institutional aspects of DRRM, and its relevance to the implementation of a well-established and effective DRRM system.
The activity was spearheaded by LIA Practice Leader and EMI Expert, Atty. Violeta Somera-Seva.
