What is MEGA-Learn?
Megacity-specific eLearning Tools and Training Programs
MEGA-Learn is EMI's online platform for training, capacity building and knowledge sharing. It consists of megacity-specific tools and online training courses for disaster risk management practitioners, city managers, researchers and other professionals. EMI has developed this suite of tools in close collaboration with its international and local partners worldwide. With MEGA-Learn, EMI hopes to enhance the DRM capacity of megacities, improve disaster risk communication and ultimately strengthen stakeholders’ ownership of the DRMMP process in EMI's 3cd partner cities.
To date, MEGA-Learn consists of the following DRM tools and training programs:1. MEGA-Index, the Megacity Indicators System, a sound and tested methodology for benchmarking disaster risk reduction in a city, tracking progress and building ownership mechanisms
2. MEGA-Know, the Megacity Disaster Risk Management Knowledge Base, a web-based tool for knowledge sharing, especially DRM sound practices and the DRMMP experience
3. MEGA-View or Internet-based Map Viewers, a GIS-based tool for disaster risk management planning, education and risk communication
4. MEGA-Plan, an eLearning Training Course on Risk-Sensitive Land Use Planning developed by EMI
5. World Bank Institute’s Distance Learning Program on Natural Disaster Risk Management.
