MEGA-Plan is a training program on mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in land-use and urban planning. It aims to demonstrate how land use planning can be a means to modify vulnerabilities and reduce disaster risks of cities and urban areas exposed to natural hazards. It seeks to demonstrate to participants how disaster risk assessment tools, techniques and methods can be integrated into the land use planning process and practices in ways that will mainstream risk reduction in the core objectives of comprehensive land use planning. Ultimately, by integrating risk assessment tools and methods in the formulation, development and implementation of land use and urban development plans, the vulnerability to hazards and risk of cities to natural disasters will be reduced.
The eLearning Course takes the format of blended learning, a combination of web-based and face-to-face course delivery modes. The first part of the course will be conducted online for 10 weeks, while the last part will be done in a 3-4 day workshop in which participants will present and discuss their course projects.
The MEGA-Plan eLearning Course consists of the following modules:
Module I: Natural Disasters, Hazards and Development ?
Module II: Seismic Risk Assessment ?
Module III: Flood Risk ?
Module IV: Land Use Planning for Sustainable Disaster- Resilient Cities ?
Module V: Learning Application
