EMI shared the results of its desk review for the World Bank-GFDRR project, “Technical Assistance to Support Local Government Capacity to Manage Natural Risks in the Philippines” last October 2, 2008 at the World Bank Office in Metro Manila. EMI presented a short list of tools and models that it found applicable and effective for mainstreaming disaster risk management within the functions of local government units in the Philippines. These recommendations will then be used in developing a framework for LGUs to assess their DRM capacity.
After getting the inputs of World Bank and other partner organizations, EMI mentioned the plan to validate their findings with practitioners who are using the DRM instruments in the field. It will also provide useful information on how LGUs can adapt the models and tools successfully and the ways to bridge the gap between local realities and the models developed in other countries.
EMI is joined by three partner organizations that are also taking the lead in their respective program components.
