Thirteen engineers from the Department of Engineering and Public Works and Office of the Building Officials of the City Government of Makati completed a one-day training on seismic vulnerability assessment of buildings using rapid visual screening.  It was held on 21 January 2009 at the Human Resource Training Room of the Makati City Hall.

The training program was designed by Dr. Fouad Bendimerad (Project Director), Dr. Tabassam Raza (Project Manager), and Dr. Fernando Germar (EMI Consultant). Dr. Germar handled majority of the technical sessions in the morning that included seismic vulnerability of Brgy. Rizal, general framework for vulnerability analysis, and rapid visual screening for seismic vulnerability. Dr. Nathaniel von Einsiedel, another EMI consultant, facilitated the session on site planning requirements. The morning lectures were supplemented by an actual field application in the afternoon.
The city engineers together with the Physical Risk Cluster of th

e project are scheduled to meet again on 27 January 2009 to finalize data collection instruments and plans for tha actual rapid visual screening set from 29 January to 12 February 2009.  Over 1,200 buildings are targeted to be evaluated by the city engineers. Outputs of the said activity will be used as one of the risk parameters in the Makati Risk-Sensitive Urban Redevelopment Planning project.
