The proceedings of the first session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction (GO/DRR) is now available on the UN-ISDR website. The GP/DRR was held in Geneva, Switzerland on 5-7 June 2007 in order "to raise awareness and commitment to reduce disaster risks, to share experience and good practice, and to provide global guidance on strategies for risk reduction at international, regional, national and local levels." The panel session on reducing disaster risk in urban areas and megacities is on page 7 of the report.
A Global Forum for Urban Risk Reduction, with the theme "Reducing Disaster Risk and Building Resilience to Disasters in Cities,” was also co-organized as a side event of the GP/DRR. EMI jointly organized the Forum with UCLG, UN-Habitat, Metropolis, ICLEI, UNDP and UNISDR on 6 June 2007. The highlights of the said Forum may be downloaded here.
