As a partner in the Partnership for Urban Risk Reduction (PURR) Project, EMI is offering a 2-day training program on disaster risk management for local professionals, managers and policy makers in Sydney, Australia on October 21-22, 2008. Dr. Bijan Kazai is the overall lead of the training program. He will be joined by EMI’s General Secretary Atty. Violeta Seva who will talk about legal and institutional structures and local actors in DRM.
Training Agenda
The first day of the training session will provide an overview of the key principles and building blocks in managing and reducing disaster risks in cities. On the next day, trainees will have an overview of tools and strategies for developing and implementing a city-wide disaster risk reduction agenda.
A range of practices and topics will be covered from presenting need assessment methods for defined DRR objectives, to introducing planning and management tools for achieving DRR strategies, to covering the main institutional arrangements and organizational structures in setting disaster management systems.
